Challenge
A multinational investment bank sought independent, third-party perspective on the short- and long-term stability of a medical facility offering advanced technological treatments to support financing efforts.
Solution
We developed a broad industry overview and then conducted a deep dive analysis into the facility and market specific factors impacting future performance, including technology, business strategy, partnership agreements, capacity, and financial performance, as well as projected service demand (using our Healthcare Demand Microsimulation model) under status quo and alternative operating scenarios.
Results
Over the course of two projects, the clients raised ~$500M in financing.
Challenge
The global pricing team at a multinational pharmaceutical company was struggling to stay on top of the constantly evolving landscape for international reference pricing (IRP). The team needed a comprehensive yet structured approach for capturing relevant policy indicators, monitoring them over time, and ingesting them into IRP simulation platforms.
Solution
Leveraging the in-depth insights on policy mechanisms from our IRP Guidebook, we developed and populated a data collection template, distilling down the complexity and interconnectedness of the global IRP landscape into a standardized set of indicators. For regular maintenance, we drew on daily analysis of IRP policy reforms coming from our World Markets Pricing & Reimbursement platform.
Results
As a result, the client obtained a structured information tool, taking the pain out of ongoing IRP knowledge management, and supporting more accurate IRP simulations and price forecasting activities.
Challenge
The global market access team at a multinational pharmaceutical company was struggling to derive assumptions for medium- and long-term price erosion as part of newly joined-up forecasting initiatives with the finance function. The team needed access to historic pricing data across a large basket of drugs and markets, along with a well-considered framework capturing the unique pricing and reimbursement landscape in each country.
Solution
Leveraging our PharmOnline International (POLI) database and consultant expertise, we developed a customized analytical framework organized around various indicators, including time to first price change, number of price changes over time, and average price change over different time intervals. To contextualize results, the framework captured current pricing and reimbursement policies as well as potential reforms.
Results
As a result, the client obtained a validated, reproducible framework setting the basis for collaboration between the market access and finance functions for ongoing forecasting activities.
Challenge
The strategic planning division of an internationally respected hospital system required service area projections of demand for hospital beds and medical professionals by service line and specialty type over a 15-year period.
Solution
The project team used our Healthcare Demand Microsimulation Model to forecast provider and hospital bed demand projections for each county in the hospital system’s multistate service area. Projections were modeled under several scenarios reflecting possible future trends in healthcare use and delivery patterns – including, increased use of advanced practice providers, increased use of value-based payment models, achieving select population health goals, and better preventing avoidable emergency visits and re-hospitalizations. The team developed a tool which allowed the client to make real-time changes to market share, inpatient admissions, and average length of stay assumptions.
Results
The client is using this comprehensive set of health care use and health workforce demand projections to support strategic planning initiatives.
Challenge
Clients require independent, objective valuation and reporting services to inform recent and future investments.
Solution
We provided analytical support in determining the current and projected value of pharmaceutical and biotech assets, combining the expertise from our private equity and valuation services teams, with the deep industry knowledge of our life sciences group. Our work has previously included advising on assets in infectious disease, gene therapy, oncology, respiratory, hematology, vitamins and micronutrients, and early drug discovery and medical devices.
Results
Deliverables provide in-depth assessment of the financial, pharmaceutical and biotech asset landscape for client investment decisions.
Challenge
The global pricing team at a multinational pharmaceutical company was looking to benchmark its cross-country tiered pricing strategy against other industry models. In addition, the team wanted to identify opportunities to mitigate risk associated with international reference pricing and optimize tier placement according to alternative potential metrics.
Solution
We partnered with expert economist colleagues to advance a number of new tiered pricing models, drawing on Global Consumer Markets data for 100+ countries. The team also leveraged its comprehensive source of international IRP rules, the IRP Guidebook, to assess the level of risk associated with alternative tiering strategies.
Results
The client acquired a deeper understanding of the advantages and drawbacks of its current pricing model vis-à-vis alternatives, as well as ideas for optimization of current tier placement.
